World Oceans Day 2025: How Small Shifts Create Big Waves
At Solara Suncare, caring for your skin and protecting the planet go hand in hand. Every formula we create reflects our commitment to clean, consciously chosen and sourced ingredients, for the love of sensitive skin, our health and the planet.
But on World Oceans Day — celebrated annually on June 8th — we take a moment to go deeper. It's a chance to honor our oceans, spotlight critical reef conservation efforts, and remind ourselves how everyday choices (yes, even like the sunscreen you wear) can support in protecting some of the most fragile ecosystems on Earth.
Supporting Our Ocean: A Deeper Look at Our Solara Reef Restoration Project
In 2024, Solara proudly joined forces with Roctopus Dive, an eco-conscious dive organization based in Thailand, to support a powerful reef restoration project in a protected marine zone.
With your support, we helped fund and build an artificial reef structure custom designed to anchor coral fragments and offer safe, stable homes for marine life. The results? Exciting!
-
1,200+ coral fragments planted
-
Fish populations increasing in density and diversity
-
New reef structures actively supporting a growing ecosystem
In just one year, we’ve seen a visible transformation — proof that when conscious brands and passionate communities come together, real change happens beneath the surface.
What’s Next? Expansion.
We’ve enjoyed so much watching our reef grow and thrive that we are doing it again this year, adding a second reef structure near the “Solara Octopus” we planted last year, working with Roctopus and their local marine authorities to:
🌿 Increase the number of coral fragments from 1,244 to 1,700
🌿 Add more Solara reef structures within the existing restoration zone
🌿 Expand safe spaces for marine life, especially young fish, to thrive

Why It Matters
Coral reefs are often called the rainforests of the sea and a home to more than 25% of marine species. But rising temperatures, plastic pollution, and human activity are pushing these ecosystems to the brink. That’s why every effort from rebuilding reef structures to changing our own habits on land makes a big difference. That’s why Solara is proudly Hawaii Act 104 Reef-Compliant — meaning our mineral-based SPFs are free from oxybenzone and octinoxate, two chemicals proven to damage coral reefs. Your choice to wear reef-safe sunscreen doesn’t just protect your skin — it helps protect reef ecosystems.

What You Can Do to Support (Starting Today)
You don’t have to scuba dive to protect coral reefs. Small, everyday shifts can help support ocean health:
🌊 Choose Hawaii Act 104 Reef Compliant SPF (Solara’s entire collection is mineral-based and compliant)
🌊 Reduce single-use plastic – bring your own bottle, lunchware, and reusable bags when you can
🌊 Join or organize beach or river cleanups in your local community
🌊 Share what you learn – education spreads awareness and action
Our partners at Roctopus Dive recently removed over 1,900 plastic bottles from a single dive site in one day. A powerful reminder: what we do on land directly impacts our oceans.
