SPINNING SUNSHINE + GOOD VIBES: DJ Cass Drops Exclusive Soundtrack to Transform Your Summer Mood
Summer’s in session, and who better to set the vibe than our favorite award-winning celebrity DJ and producer, DJ Cassandra. Whether she’s spinning at major music festivals, filming a TV show or opening for the Chainsmokers, Cass knows how to transform beats into the energetic mood shift we’re all craving this summer—and she’s teamed up with our team over here at Solara to do just that.
Today we caught up with the Austin-based DJ to kick off her exclusive Summer of Solara x DJ Cass Road Trip Playlist. As a Biomedical Music composer, she’s been recognized in the music industry for her unique ability to hone in on what music, beats or artists fit a mood, destination or energetic need, curating playlists that truly create transformative and lasting imprints. Tune in (literally, it’s on Spotify) and read on for her go-to road trip tips, summer artists you can’t miss out on, and how she stays glowing inside and out while on the road.
-
Q: When you're curating a summer road trip playlist, what are your go-to rules for setting the perfect vibe for the drive?
-
A: For me, energy is everything. I love to mix up genres and beats to keep things interesting. The tempo really matters! I try to stay in that sweet spot around 110 to 116 BPM, which keeps me energized but still relaxed. The music also has to match the destination. If I’m headed somewhere like Marfa or a new national park, I want the playlist to reflect that excitement. It’s all about setting the mood and letting the music shape the journey.

Q: Music can totally transform a summer moment from beach days to rooftop nights to morning hikes. What songs or artists are on repeat for you right now?
- A: I’m absolutely obsessed with Olivia Dean right now — she has the best music, harmonically and energy wise. I’m also loving Lane 8’s music, specifically the songs: Rope and Grapevine. I took a road trip to the Redwoods last year, and those songs were the perfect match for the misty weather and peaceful vibe. I also love making playlists for my friends. One of my favorites was for a friend driving from Austin to Denver after a breakup. Providing a mix of power anthems and emotional tracks to match the moment got her through it. It’s all about tuning in to what people need. When I’m with friends, I like to keep it fun and flirty, so Dan Kaye is always a hit. His tracks are made for a lake day that turns into an evening hangout. I also mix in R&B, soulful grooves, and some new disco to keep the energy high. There’s something about soultronic music that makes the whole day feel smooth and vibrant.
-
Q: If you could curate the ultimate summer road trip route, where would you go — and what’s playing as you cruise?
-
A: If I had to choose, I’d fly into San Francisco and drive out to the Redwoods or Big Sur. It’s such a stunning route. For that kind of trip, I’d definitely have Vulfpeck playing, they’re groovy and perfect for a scenic drive. I’d also include Tourist for that nostalgic, feel-good energy, and of course, Charli XCX. She’s a must on any road trip playlist.

Q: What’s a typical day in the life of a DJ like, especially during the busy summer months?
-
A: Peak summer is usually my downtime in Texas, so I use it to recharge, work on new music, and play a few fun gigs like pool parties or day / night events. On gig days, I spend the morning prepping my sets and checking my gear. Since I’m outside a lot, Solara Fortune Teller is my secret weapon. It gives me the perfect glow, evens my skin tone, and protects with SPF! It's the one product that makes me feel put together and protected at the same time. After a set, I usually hang and celebrate with friends. In my down time I also try to catch up on admin or planning my next set. I try to keep things balanced with a little work and a little play.
-
Q: What are some of your must-have travel products (beauty / wellness) that always make it into your bag?
-
A: Sunscreen is my number one essential, and as I shared earlier Solara Fortune Teller is always with me! It gives me coverage and protection in one easy step, which is ideal when I’m on the go. I also pack eyeliner, mascara, and lip balm for quick touch-ups. For hair, I keep something to manage humidity, and I love using refreshing towelettes when it’s really hot! They help me cool down and feel fresh in a pinch.
-
Q: For anyone creating their own summer playlist, do you have tips for balancing energy, tempo, and mood?
-
A: Start slow, especially on longer trips. If it’s a quick drive, I’ll jump in with high-energy tracks right away. But for longer road trips, I like to ease in with indie songs around 80 to 100 BPM, then build up the tempo as the journey unfolds. I’ll mix emotional songs with fun, upbeat tracks. You might start with something soulful, then hit with some pop, and finish strong with a throwback like Stevie Wonder or Ja Rule. It’s all about creating an emotional ride through music.
-
Q: Do you have any non-negotiables when it comes to taking care of your skin and yourself while on the road or performing outdoors?
-
A: Sunglasses are essential, especially since I have blue eyes. They really help protect against the sun. I always wear my fave Solara Fortune Teller tinted moisturizer to keep my skin safe while still looking fresh. I never skip sunscreen on my shoulders and neck, those areas are extra sensitive and easy to forget when I’m playing a show. Solara Good Karma is my favorite body sunscreen. It’s lightweight, calming, and never irritating, even after hours in the sun. Plus, it smells amazing and makes me feel like I’m on vacation in Italy, even when I’m working. And a hat is a must! It gives me that extra layer of protection during long outdoor sets.
-
Q: You’ve created the DJ Cass x Summer of Solara “Road Trip Playlist” — can you give us a sneak peek into a few standout tracks and why you chose them?
-
A: Here are a few of my current favorites:
-
“So Nice to Be in Love” by Mascolo and LP Giobbi (a little Austin, TX love here) — sweet and romantic, perfect for a calm drive
-
“Memory Lane” by Nas — the ultimate rhythmic driving song
-
“1612” by Vulfpeck — fun, groovy, singable and fits any vibe
-
“Queen” by Dan Kye — empowering and great for a beach or lake hang
-
Anything of the Italo Disco genre — dreamy and perfect for long, scenic stretches. Plus it makes you feel like you’re spending your summer in the Italian countryside.
-
Q: What’s next for you this summer? Any shows, travels, or projects we should keep an eye out for?
-
A: Yes! I just wrapped working on a TV show, which you’ll hear more about later this year. I’m also taking time off to work on new music, which I’m really excited about. And I’ll be heading to a music retreat with Jacob Collier later this summer, which is going to be a creative deep dive, and I can’t wait.
Whether you’re driving through the Redwoods, soaking in the beach sun, or chasing the sunset, DJ Cassandra has the soundtrack to make every mile feel unforgettable. Let the music guide your mood – here’s to good vibes, epic adventures and skin that stays radiant and protected wherever the road takes you! XO
